OCE Discovery Conference 2016
On Monday, May 9th and Tuesday, May 10th, our team attended Canada’s leading innovation-to-commercialization conference which was hosted by Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE). There were more than 3,000 attendees and 500 exhibitors at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).
We were at booth 813 in the “Innovation at Work in Eastern Ontario” section along with Parteq Innovations, Queen’s University Industry Partnerships, St. Lawrence College Applied Research, KEDCO, the County of Lennox and Addington, Grafoid, QSBR Innovations, Ioffe Biotechnologies, and Queen’s Engineering and Applied Science (they had a robot!). Our booth consisted of a banner and marketing collateral.
One of the best advantages to being at OCE Discovery is that everyone else is there with you. We were able to walk the trade show floor and network with companies, colleagues, and meet some really interesting entrepreneurs. Here are just a few of the exciting new companies we visited:
• NVEST: A social media company for stock pickers who are looking to revolutionize the stock recommendation industry by promoting full accountability for each investor’s recommendations. This will allow the less informed investor to check out another’s track record before following their advice.
• You Mech Me Crazy by RukusGames: A video game consisting of two robots who are broken in half due to a collision with a spaceship and are reattached to the wrong half. You and a partner have to work together, each controlling the top or bottom half of each robot, to make your way past the obstacles and to the end of the level. We’re interested to see how this game progresses and what RukusGames comes up with next!
• Steadiwear: A company who developed a glove that reduces the hand tremors for people who live with Essential Tremor and Parkinson’s Disease. It’s washable, lightweight, adaptable and has no battery.
In addition, Discovery invited a variety of keynote speakers including Robin Chase, Co-Founder and former CEO of Zipcar, JB Straubel, Co-Founder and CTO of Tesla Motors and Spencer West, a motivational speaker and author, just to name a few.
Our team had a great time learning about other entrepreneurs and their companies. We’re looking forward to Discovery 2017!
Discovery 2016 created a video to thank all of the attendees and exhibitors.
