Alexandria, Ontario — Wednesday, May 1, 2019 — Launch Lab, a Regional Innovation Centre and part of the ONE Network located in Kingston, Ontario, is proud to announce that Fauxmagerie Zengarry, under the leadership of President Lynda Turner, is the recipient of the Women Entrepreneurship Fund in the amount of $100,000, in nonrepayable contribution funding for 12 months – as part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to advancing gender equality.
Fauxmagerie Zengarry, founded in 2013, has seen rapid growth and increasing demand for its dairy-free cheeses, which are hand crafted within their Alexandria-based production facility. Now found coast-to-coast in retail locations including Whole Foods, Metro and IGA, Fauxmagerie Zengarry strives to create innovative products while continuing to grow its business and create employment opportunities in their rural community.
“We are honoured and pleased to be listed among so many worthy recipients of the Women Entrepreneurial fund,” said Lynda Turner, president of Fauxmagerie Zengarry. “This funding will enable us to hire more talented individuals as well as expand our warehouse in order to meet the growing demand for our vegan cashew cheeses.”
“I would like to thank Launch Lab for their continued support and business mentorship which has truly helped us grow and expand at the rate we are experiencing today,” said Lynda. “Their expertise and business experience go a long way in helping entrepreneurs like me get to the next level in business.”
“We are delighted to see Fauxmagerie Zengarry receive this well-deserved funding,” said Scott Runté, Launch Lab CEO. “Our Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) program has been able to provide marketing, sales and distribution experience to help the company scale its operations. We look forward to continuing to work with Lynda and her team as part of our goal to help companies like Fauxmagerie Zengarry, that are the future of Eastern Ontario’s Innovation Ecosystem.”
Fauxmagerie Zengarry has also benefited from the support of the Cornwall & the Counties Community Futures Development Corporation. Lynda is tirelessly committed to her community and we are proud to have the opportunity to support her growth,” said Lesley Thompson, Executive Director, Cornwall & the Counties Community Futures Development Corporation.
About Fauxmagerie Zengarry – Award-winning vegan cashew cheese company Fauxmagerie Zengarry was born in 2013 out of Lynda Turner’s dissatisfaction with the vegan cheese options on the market. After 25 years in the health and food industry and working as a senior scientist with Health Canada, her passion shifted to creating delicious, plant-based cheese using fresh, local ingredients like Ontario garlic and basil grown in-house on their living wall. Vegan dairy substitutes have come a long way over the past decade. Fauxmagerie Zengarry offers a line of cultured plant-based cheese that tastes as good as the dairy version. Zengarry’s fauxmages are now one of the most sought-after cashew cheeses in Canada and can be found in almost 400 retail and health food stores across the country.
