Hummingbird Chocolate in the News
Another Launch Lab client was featured in the newspaper this past week. This time it was Hummingbird Chocolate Maker in the Ottawa Citizen in an article written by Laura Robin.
What: Gorgeous, glossy bunnies filled with raspberry or passion fruit marshmallow, plus solid bars topped with caramelized honey and lavender.
Why: The bunnies are dark and handsome, have award-winning flavour, and are made locally. The cacao beans are imported by Stittsville couple Erica and Drew Gilmour from a bird sanctuary in the Dominican Republic. In Almonte, using an old-fashioned, small-batch process, they make it into a fabulous, fruity chocolate that has won international awards.
The fruit-filled bunnies are new for Easter, as are the honey lavender bars, which are made with Ottawa Valley Honey and lavender from nearby Prince Edward County.
“The honey lavender bar was inspired by the natural honey quality of the chocolate,” says Erica. “We wanted to create something to welcome spring and strove to make it both delicious and beautiful.”
Where: You can find all of Hummingbird’s products at its new factory and shop at 9 Houston Dr. in Almonte, which had its grand opening last weekend. In Ottawa, look for an assortment of the Easter products at the Red Apron (564 Gladstone Ave.), Life of Pie (1095 Bank St.), Epicuria (357 St. Laurent Blvd.) and Jojo Coco (471 Hazeldean Rd.)
How much: The filled bunnies are about $13. The honey lavender bars are $7.
