This is an advanced session explaining the basic tools and techniques of financial management for a business owner.

We will discuss budget creation and monitoring, cash management, product/division/customer analysis, planning/forecasting, and trend analysis.

Outline:

• What’s financial management?

• What tools can help operate my business?

• How do I determine if a product is profitable?

• What’s my most profitable product?

• Who are my most profitable customers?

• Why do I need a budget?

• How do I create and use a budget?

• What reports do I need?

• How do I tell where my business is heading?

informed financial decisions

A high-energy, disciplined professional, Edward Sawaya is a seasoned real estate development and finance professional with over 25 years of a diverse financial and business career, mainly in the real estate development and infrastructure arenas. Between 2018 and 2021, Edward has acted as a strategic advisor and a senior executive in a Chief Operating Officer and a Chief Financial Officer capacities and roles for various real estate developers in the Greater Toronto Area.

Edward was a Vice President at Borealis Infrastructure (part of OMERS, a large Ontario-based pension fund), the pre-eminent global firm in the infrastructure asset class. During the 7 years he spent at Borealis, Edward worked on numerous transactions totaling over $10 billion in the energy, transportation, healthcare and telecommunications industries amongst others.

Edward spent over 5 years with an international accounting firm (Ernst & Young) where he was part of the Transaction Services and Auditing departments. While in the Transaction Services department, Edward worked on due diligence engagements totaling more than $8 billion in different industries including financial institutions, real estate, and telecommunications in Canada, the United States and Europe.

Edward graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Commerce. Edward is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is also a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV).
